When you consider the terrain of the area, with mountain peaks and the gorgeous lake, it will probably surprise you just how easy it is to get to Tahoe Vista. There are two major international airports that service the area, as well as easily navigated Interstates and highways that lead directly to the lake area.
The Reno/Tahoe International Airport is at work 24 hours per day, with eleven airlines and over 160 arrivals and departures per day. Several cities offer non-stop service, including Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Seattle. It’s a fairly small airport, so getting in and out is easy. There are also several options for public transportation from the terminal once you arrive, which connects you quickly to the ski resorts and towns in the area.
The Sacramento International Airport is located about two hours away from North Lake Tahoe and offers 150 departures and arrivals daily. Many cities across the country offer non-stop flights to Sacramento, including New York City, Newark, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Honolulu, Houston, Las Vegas, Minneapolis, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Kansas City, and all major cities in California. If you choose to fly into Sacramento, you will probably need to consider car rental for travel to the Lake Tahoe area.
The Truckee-Tahoe Airport is a municipal airport that caters to private and smaller commercial planes. It’s located between Truckee and Kings Beach on Highway 267, and is serviced by some public transportation.
If you’re planning to arrive via the San Francisco International Airport or the Oakland International Airport, then Interstate 80 will provide a straight path directly to North Lake Tahoe. The highways that cross the area make navigation easy, with California State Route 89 and 267, California and Nevada State Route 28, and Nevada State Route 431 leading visitors easily to Tahoe Vista and North Tahoe Lake.
