The Office of Emergency Services in Placer County is in place to keep the citizens and visitors to the Lake Tahoe area safe and away from harm. The Office is comprised of the County Emergency Management Program, the Hazard Mitigation and Biomass Programs, and the Fire Protection and Hazardous Response.
The County Emergency Management Program serves to respond to any natural and human-caused disasters in the county by assigning responsibilities to the emergency departments in the county. This organization liaises with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the California Emergency Management Agency to ensure preparedness for any emergencies or disasters in the surrounding area by conducting emergency drills and simulations.
The Hazard Mitigation and Biomass Programs are partly responsible for the Community Wildfire Protection Planning, and works with the Fire Safe Alliance and Fire Safe Councils to educate the public on preventing forest fires and other disasters on a mass scale.
The Fire Protection and Hazardous Materials Response team responds to calls regarding fire and hazardous materials that can harm the public. They provide information to citizens regarding preparedness and response in the event of any catastrophe.
On a smaller scale, the Tahoe Vista and Placer County police, ambulance, and fire departments are on hand to keep daily life safe and secure for the residents and visitors of the area. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office and the North Lake Tahoe Fire District both serve Tahoe Vista. There are several hospitals in the area, including Incline Village Community Hospital in Incline Village, Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, Lakeside Medical Center in Incline Village, and Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City. The emergency responders and medical staff of Tahoe Vista and the surrounding area are always working around the clock to make sure that the residents and tourists remain safe and healthy.
